We work with 'Bet Hayeled' -children ages 10 to 18 that were taken by a court order from their homes and were put in a house so they can be supervised. 10 children at the age of 15-16 started volunteering with us last month and are planning to volunteer once a month at our place. With the assistance of the municipal social welfare department and the outreach program run by the Sea Scouts ("Anchor for Life"), FFD will identify 2 groups of 10-12 teenagers (15-16 years old) and train them as food distribution volunteers for FFD. The training program will include practical as well as consciousness-raising activities intended to increase their social awareness and commitment as well as motivation to help others. Upon completion of the course, the volunteers will be certified FFD volunteers. Once they have completed the course and begin their volunteer work (4 hours/week packaging and delivering FFD's food parcels for the needy), the young people in this program will "earn" credits that allow them to participate in an FFD-sponsored computer CAD (computer assisted design) course that will be run at the FFD offices in Tel Aviv. |
